Synopsis
Devathayai Kanden is a 2005 Indian Tamil-language romantic drama film written and directed by Boopathy Pandian in his directorial debut.
The film stars Dhanush and Sridevi Vijaykumar, with Kunal and Karunas playing supporting roles. The movie shares its name with a song from another Dhanush film, Kaadhal Kondein (2003).
Released on 14 January 2005, Devathaiyai Kanden became a commercial success.
The story revolves around Babu, a struggling tea vendor who falls in love with Uma, a rich college girl. As their relationship progresses, Uma's parents find her a wealthy groom, Bala, leading to a dilemma for Uma on whom to choose as her life partner.
Uma ultimately decides to marry the groom, but Babu files a case against her for not holding the promise made to him of sharing a life together. The case gains momentum, and through revelations from people known to him, Uma has a change of heart and reunites with Babu on the final day of the hearing.
