Pokkiri is a 2007 Indian Tamil-language action film directed by Prabhu Deva and produced by Kanagarathna Movies.
The film stars Vijay in the lead role alongside Asin, Prakash Raj, Napolean, Nassar, Mukesh Tiwari, Vadivelu, Sriman, Anandaraj, Vincent Asokan, Subbaraju, and Master Bharath.
Principal photography commenced in July 2006 and was predominantly shot in Chennai, wrapping up by late-November. The film features music composed by Mani Sharma, cinematography handled by Nirav Shah, and editing by Kola Bhaskar.
The story follows a young IPS officer who goes undercover as a rogue to take out anti-socials, working for Police Commissioner Mohammed Maideen Khan IPS.
Thamizh, the protagonist, is a Chennai-based thug-for-hire with no ties to anyone, who falls in love with a young girl named Shruthi. However, their romance is threatened by two obstacles: Shruthi's dislike of Thamizh's violent ways and Police Sub-Inspector Govindan's pursuit of her.
Meanwhile, Dubai-based crime lord Ali Bhai arrives in Chennai to silence his rival gangster Narasimhan and meet with Thamizh. However, during their meeting, Ali Bhai is arrested, leading the police to hatch a morally abhorrent plan to secure his release.
Pokkiri was released theatrically on 12 January 2007 and received positive reviews with praise for Vijay's performance and action sequences.
