Kumbakonam Gopalu is a 1998 Indian Tamil-language film directed by Keyaar and starring Pandiarajan, Mayoori, Janagaraj, and Thyagu.
The film is a remake of the 1991 Kannada film Gauri Ganesha. It tells the story of Gopal, a petty trickster who cheats and lies to make a living. He fakes an abdominal issue to gain free lodging and food at a hospital, where he meets a patient named Sangeetha who has recently died by suicide.
Gopal discovers Sangeetha's diary, which reveals the names of three men with significant influence in her life: her former boss, who proposed indecently to sleep with her; and two others. Gopal decides to take advantage of this information to make money from their belongings.
The film won the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Child Artist for child actor Mahendran's performance.
