Peranbu

Peranbu (also released as Resurrection) is a 2018 Indian Tamil-language drama film directed by Ram and written by the same individual. The production was undertaken under Shree Rajalakshmi Films, with P. L. Thenappan serving as producer.

The principal actors are Mammootty and Anjali (also referred to as Anj). Yuvan Shankar Raja is credited for composing the film's score and soundtrack album. Technical aspects were handled by Theni Eswar, who served as cinematographer, and Surya Pradhaman, responsible for editing.

The narrative centers on a father grappling with confusion following his wife's abandonment. His daughter suffers from cerebral palsy, creating significant challenges for the family. The plot explores this father's profound dejection and struggle to provide care for his child while facing constant societal rejection towards them.

Director Ram dedicated nearly six years to developing the script before narrating it to Mammootty in February 2015. Principal photography commenced later, in January 2016, following delays associated with finalizing the cast and crew. Filming locations included Kodaikanal and Chennai, concluding within a year of its start.

The film premiered internationally at several notable events: the International Film Festival Rotterdam on January 27, 2018; the Shanghai International Film Festival in June 2018 (though participation was noted for China); and the Indian Panorama category during the 49th International Film Festival of India. It was originally scheduled for a theatrical release beginning February 1, 2019.

Critics lauded performances by Mammootty and Anjali, as well as Ram's direction, screenplay, and narration. The film achieved significant success at award ceremonies, winning the Best Film award at the Zee Cine Awards Tamil event. It received ten nominations at the Ananda Vikatan Cinema Awards, securing two wins: one for Best Film (as mentioned) and another for Best Music Director awarded to Yuvan Shankar Raja.

Upon its release, Peranbu was recognized as a Top rated Indian movie of 2019 by the Internet Movie Database (IMDb).
