Velayudham is a 2011 Indian Tamil-language superhero film directed by Mohan Raja and produced by V. Ravichandran under Aascar Film.
The film stars Vijay in the titular role with Hansika Motwani, Genelia D'Souza, Santhanam, Saranya Mohan, Soori, Abhimanyu Singh, and Vineet Kumar playing other prominent roles.
The music was composed by Vijay Antony, with cinematography by Priyan and editing by B. Lenin and V. T. Vijayan.
The film is inspired from the 2000 Telugu film Azad, but also reported to be inspired from Assassin's Creed video game series, with Vijay wearing the costume of Altaïr.
Bharathi, a young journalist, investigates a series of terrorist attacks in Chennai. After being badly beaten and her friends killed, she creates an imaginary character called Velayudham and writes a note about his desire to clean up the city. Meanwhile, an ordinary milkman named Velu becomes the fictional character Velayudham due to circumstances, taking on the scum of the earth in the city.
The film was released on 26 October 2011 to mixed reviews and became a commercial success at the box office and also marked as Genelia's last Tamil film till date.
