Simmarasi is a 1998 Indian Tamil-language film directed and written by Erode Soundar. The film stars Sarathkumar and Khushbu, with supporting roles played by Kanaka, Manorama, Anandaraj, and Vineeth.
The movie follows the story of Manickavasagam, who stops a caste fight in a village and is asked to help resolve conflicts. However, this incites the wrath of Maragatham, the biggest badman in the village, who killed his own brother for marrying into a different caste. The film's plot revolves around the rivalry between Manickavasagam and Maragatham, with Lakshmi's son Kathir wanting to build a factory that Manickavasagam will not allow.
Simmarasi was released on October 19, 1998, during Diwali, and became a success. Sarathkumar won the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actor for his performance in the film.
