
Sangamam is a 1999 Indian Tamil-language romantic musical dance film directed by Suresh Krissna and produced by V. Natarajan of Pyramid Films.
The film stars Rahman and newcomer Vindhya, with Manivannan, Vijayakumar, Radha Ravi, and Vadivelu playing supporting roles.
A. R. Rahman composed the music for the film, while S. Saravanan handled the cinematography.
The story revolves around disputes between two forms of musical professions: Classical (Carnatic) and rural folk (Tamil Nadu folk). The plot takes a turn when a guy and a girl from opposing camps fall in love, highlighting the egos, hatred, and ignorance faced by both groups towards each other.
The film was released on 16 July 1999 and won the National Film Award for Best Lyrics (Vairamuthu) and four Tamil Nadu State Film Awards.
