The movie follows the story of Selvarasu, whose two brothers are willing to sacrifice their lives for him, and his close relationship with his sister Rasamani.
A wealthy man from a neighboring village proposes marriage to Rasamani as revenge against Thangarasu, one of Selvarasu's brothers.
The film features music composed by Sabesh–Murali and was released on August 31, 2001.
It became a box office success and was remade in Telugu as Siva Rama Raju, in Bengali as Kartabya, and in Kannada as Paramashiva.
