Samrat is a 1997 Indian Tamil-language crime thriller film directed by Sakthi Chidambaram and produced by Lakshmi Karan.
The cast includes Ramki, Vineetha, R. Sundarrajan, Thalaivasal Vijay, and Sabitha Anand in the film.
It is a remake of the Hindi film Baazigar, based on the American film A Kiss Before Dying.
The film was released on 10 October 1997 and features Ramki as a young man named Ashok who claims to be reported missing as a child.
Ashok meets Damayanthi (Rukma), the daughter of Sundar (Mohan N), in his new home, where he is taken in by his sister's family.
The film received a subsidy of ₹5 lakh from the then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M. Karunanidhi two years after its release, along with ten other films.
