Oor Panchayathu is a 1992 Indian Tamil-language film written and directed by Mahendran.
The story revolves around Siva, who becomes the foster son of a respected village elder after being raised in his household. The elder's granddaughter wishes to marry Siva, but their relationship faces strain when the villagers unanimously elect him as head of the village panchayat. This decision angers the elder's son-in-law.
Siva's subsequent act of giving shelter to a woman named Thamarai and her newborn baby further fuels suspicion among the community members. His inherent kindness is misinterpreted, leading even his lover to distance herself from him.
The turning point occurs when Thamarai's husband returns, intending to take them away. This event resolves one conflict but deepens the animosity between Siva and the son-in-law, culminating in a tragic incident involving murder.
The film stars Pandiarajan and Mahalakshmi, with music composed by S. P. Balasubrahmanyam.
Oor Panchayathu was released on 29 May 1992.
