Muthal Mariyathai is a 1985 Indian Tamil-language romantic drama film produced, directed and co-written by Bharathiraja.
The film stars Sivaji Ganesan and Radha in the lead roles, alongside notable supporting actors including Vadivukkarasi, Deepan, Ranjini, Janagaraj, Sathyaraj, Aruna, Veerasamy, and Ramanathan.
The movie's storyline is based on two sources: an English-language film about a young girl and an ageing painter, and Jayakanthan's novel 'Samoogam Enbadhu Naalu Paer', which focuses on the strained relationship between a teacher and an administrator.
Entire filming took place at Talakadu, a village near Mysore in Karnataka. The film was co-written by R. Selvaraj, photographed by B. Kannan, edited by V. Rajagopal and P. Mohan Raj.
Muthal Mariyathai was released on 15 August 1985 and received positive reviews upon its release, enjoying commercial success.
