Manal Kayiru is a 1982 Tamil-language comedy-drama film written and directed by Visu in his directorial debut.
The film stars S. Ve. Shekher and Shanthi Krishna, with Visu, Manorama, Kishmu, and Kuriakose Ranga portraying supporting roles.
The movie is based on Visu's play Modi Masthan and follows the story of Kittumani, who sets eight specific conditions for an ideal wife before marriage. His uncle Naradar Naidu arranges his hand in marriage to a girl who surprisingly fails to meet any single one of these criteria.
As a result, a series of hilarious and comedic situations unfold as Kittumani tries to navigate the mismatch.
The film was released on May 7, 1982, and was later remade in Kannada as Savira Sullu, in Telugu as Pelli Chesi Chupistham, and in Malayalam as Thiruthalvaadi. A sequel, Manal Kayiru 2, was released in 2016 with the original cast reprising their roles.
