Engal Thangam (Our Gold) is a 1970 Indian Tamil-language action film directed by Krishnan–Panju and starring M. G. Ramachandran alongside Jayalalithaa.
The plot revolves around Thangam, a truck driver who falsely accuses his childhood friend Moorthy of being part of a mysterious gang of burglars to save his blind younger sister Sumathi from their clutches. He is aided in this quest by Kaladevi.
Thangam wants at all costs to save Moorthy from this gang and to stop them. The film was released on 9 October 1970 and became a success, besides winning three Tamil Nadu State Film Awards.
The film stars M. G. Ramachandran and Jayalalithaa, with the production being made without remuneration for lead actors M. Karunanidhi and Murasoli Maran due to their financial difficulties.
