Achani is a 1978 Indian Tamil-language drama film directed by Karaikudi Narayanan, who also wrote the original play adaptation. The film stars Muthuraman, Lakshmi, and Ashokan.
The film was released in February 1978 to success, marking Narayanan's directorial debut as he adapted his own work for the screen. Shobha made her acting debut with this movie.
Production faced financial hurdles during filming due to unaffordable film rolls and lack of funds, forcing a six-month halt before resuming. The completion was secured through financial assistance provided by Meenakshi Sundaram, who owned Ganesh Theatre at Melur.
The film is based on Narayanan's play of the same name, which was previously filmed in Malayalam under the same title. Despite wanting Jaishankar as the lead actor, Narayanan chose Muthuraman as per the producer's suggestion.
