Synopsis
Vaathi is a 2023 Indian period action drama film written and directed by Venky Atluri. The film stars Dhanush as the titular role of a school teacher and Samyuktha.
The film was simultaneously shot in Telugu and Tamil, with the latter version titled Sir. The music was composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar, while the cinematography was handled by J. Yuvaraj and editing by Naveen Nooli.
Abhiram and his friends discover an old box of cassette tapes containing mathematics classes from 2000, which leads them to uncover the story of a school teacher named Kumar. The film follows the teacher's fight for education amidst personal and political strife.
The film released on February 17, 2023, to mixed reviews but became one of the highest-grossing Tamil films of 2023, earning ₹105 crore worldwide. G. V. Prakash Kumar won the National Film Awards for Best Music Direction.
