Thanimai

Thanimai is a 2019 Indian Tamil-language drama film written and directed by S. Sivaraman.

The central narrative follows the journey of a Sri Lankan refugee woman who has lived in Malaysia for some time. She decides to return to her native country after many years abroad, driven by a deeply personal motivation: finding her long-lost daughter.

The film explores this emotional quest through the protagonist's experiences upon reentering Sri Lanka and navigating the search for her child. The story centers entirely on this woman's solitary search for her daughter across continents, highlighting the emotional weight of motherhood separated by distance and time.

Thanimai stars Sonia Agarwal in the lead role, alongside Sandy Master as Advocate Govindhan, Swaminathan, Ganja Karuppu, Mohan Raman, and Bonda Mani in supporting roles.

Principal photography commenced during late 2018, and the film was released on April 26th, 2019.
