Synopsis
Thalaivaa is a 2013 Indian Tamil-language action thriller film directed by A. L. Vijay and produced by Vendhar Movies.
The film stars Vijay in the titular role, alongside Amala Paul, Sathyaraj, Santhanam, Abhimanyu Singh, Ragini Nandwani, Nassar, and Rajeev Pillai.
The story follows a dancer in Australia who takes over his father's duty as a crime boss in Mumbai after his death. The film commences production in November 2012 in Mumbai and was released on August 8, 2013, on the occasion of Eid-ul Fitr.
Thalaivaa received mostly positive reviews from critics and was successful at the overseas box office, as well as in Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Karnataka. However, its performance was affected due to opposition from the ruling AIADMK, leading to a delayed release in Tamil Nadu on August 20, 2013.
