Synopsis
Sorgavaasal is a 2024 Indian Tamil-language prison drama film directed by Siddharth Vishwanath in his debut.
The film was produced by Swipe Right Studios in collaboration with Think Studios, and features an ensemble cast led by RJ Balaji and Selvaraghavan, alongside Karunas, Sharaf U Dheen, Samuel Abiola Robinson, Saniya Iyappan, Natty Subramaniam, and Balaji Sakthivel.
The screenplay and dialogues were crafted by Tamizh Prabha, Krishnakumar, and Sidharth Vishwanath. The plot is based on the 1999 Madras Central Prison riots and centers around a man who is wrongfully convicted and thrown into prison.
As he navigates the corrupt prison system, the protagonist begins to question whether jails genuinely rehabilitate their inmates or merely push them deeper into the abyss of crime. The film explores this theme and was released in theatres on 29 November 2024.
