Kadal Kuthiraigal

Kadal Kuthiraigal (Seahorses) is an Indian Tamil-language drama film released in 2018.

Directed by Pugazhendhi Thangaraj, the film explores themes related to its unique subject matter through a narrative lens specific to the medium. The principal actors portraying various elements within this story include Thalaivasal Vijay, Rohini, Sreedhanya, Bose Venkat, and Prashanthi.

The film tells the story of seahorses and their connection to human affairs, specifically focusing on the Eelam crisis in Sri Lanka and the Kudankulam protests in India. Malayalam actress Sreedhanya made her Tamil debut with this film.

Thalaivasal Vijay stars as an activist who is against the installation of a nuclear plant, while Rohini plays a Sri Lankan Tamil refugee. Sreedhanya portrays a school teacher and Bose Venkat plays a swimming coach. Prashanthi also stars as a Sri Lankan Tamil refugee.

The film faced trouble ahead of its release with police offices tearing down posters of the film. It was initially scheduled to release in March, but was pushed back to 20 July before being postponed again due to the release of Ghajinikanth on August 3.
