Kaala

Kaala is an action-drama film released in 2018, directed by Pa. Ranjith and produced by Wunderbar Films.

The story centers on Karikalan "Kaala", the leader of Dharavi, a community facing eviction from their land. The antagonist is Haridev Abhayankar, referred to as "Hari Dhadha", a ruthless minister who attempts to forcibly remove the residents and seize their property.

After his wife and older son are killed in a failed assassination attempt targeting Kaala himself within Dharavi, he transforms his opposition into a personal vendetta for revenge against Hari Dhadha. The film follows Kaala's fight to protect the remaining inhabitants of Dharvi from their ruthless adversary.

The film stars Rajinikanth in the titular role, alongside Nana Patekar, Eswari Rao, Huma Qureshi, Samuthirakani, Pankaj Tripathi, Anjali Patil, K. Manikandan, Dileepan, Nitish Veera, Sampath Raj and Ravi Kale.

Principal photography commenced in June 2016, with the official title announced in May 2017. The film was predominantly shot in Mumbai, with some additional shooting done in Chennai, and wrapped by mid-October 2018.
