Bigil

Bigil is an Indian Tamil-language sports action drama film released in 2019. The film was written and directed by Atlee, with production handled by AGS Entertainment.

The main dual lead role of Michael "Bigil" Rayappan is portrayed by Vijay, playing both the father and son versions of this character. The supporting cast includes Nayanthara, Jackie Shroff, Vivek, Kathir, Daniel Balaji, Anandaraj, Yogi Babu, I. M. Vijayan, Arjan Bajwa, Indhuja Ravichandran, Reba Monica John, Amritha Aiyer, and Varsha Bollamma.

The film's narrative centers on Michael "Bigil" Rayappan, a character depicted as having been a football player in the past. His career path shifts after he becomes involved with gangster activities. Later in his life, this version of Bigil finds himself taking on the role of a coach for a women's football team.

The plot involves providing guidance and training to this women's team towards achieving success or glory in football. However, it also presents numerous obstacles that the character faces during this coaching journey. The story explores themes related to personal sacrifice concerning one's own aspirations (in this case, Bigil's dream of being a footballer) for family responsibilities involving his father who is part of the gangster background.

The film was officially announced in November 2018 under the tentative title Thalapathy 63, as it is Vijay's 63rd film. Principal photography commenced in January 2019 and wrapped by mid-August. The music for the film was composed by A. R. Rahman.
