Amaran is a 2024 Indian Tamil-language biographical action war film directed by Rajkumar Periasamy and produced by Raaj Kamal Films International and Sony Pictures Films India.
The film tells the story of Major Mukund Varadarajan, played by Sivakarthikeyan, set against the backdrop of the Qazipathri Operation in Shopian, Kashmir, which took place in 2014. The narrative follows Indhu Rebecca Varghese, played by Sai Pallavi, as she receives the Ashoka Chakra for her late husband and reflects on his journey.
The film is an adaptation of the book series "India's Most Fearless: True Stories of Modern Military Heroes" by Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh, which includes a segment based on Major Mukund. Principal photography began in May 2023 and concluded after a year, with filming also taking place in Chennai and Pondicherry.
The film features music composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar, cinematography by debutant CH Sai, and editing by R. Kalaivanan. It was officially announced in January 2022 under the tentative title "Sivakarthikeyan 21" and received widespread critical acclaim for its performances, direction, screenplay, and music.
Amaran was released worldwide on October 31, 2024, coinciding with Diwali, and set several box office records, becoming the second highest-grossing Tamil film of 2024 and one of the highest-grossing Indian films of the year.
