
Virudhagiri is a 2010 Indian Tamil action film written and directed by Vijayakanth, marking his directorial debut alongside playing the title character.
The film co-stars Madhuri Itagi, Arun Pandian, Mansoor Ali Khan, and others. It is a remake of the English-language French film Taken.
Set in India, the movie follows Virudhagiri (Vijayakanth), a sincere police officer who returns to Chennai after gaining international recognition for his security work abroad. He handles a serious case involving transgenders being targeted for organ racketing.
On an unexpected turn, Virudhagiri's niece Priya (Madhuri Itagi) is kidnapped while on a trip to Australia. The film was released on 10 December 2010 and marks Vijayakanth's final film in his cinematic career before his full-fledged career into politics.
The movie was shot in Malaysia, despite being set in Albania and Australia.
