Veerapandiya Kattabomman is an Indian Tamil-language historical war film produced and directed by B. R. Panthulu.
The story revolves around Veerapandiya Kattabomman, a polygar who openly defies the British East India Company's demands for taxes and subsidiary rule, leading to conflict where he battles them until his eventual arrest and hanging as punishment.
The film stars Sivaji Ganesan in the titular role, alongside Gemini Ganesan, Padmini, S. Varalakshmi, and Ragini, with supporting performances by V. K. Ramasamy and Javar Seetharaman.
The music was composed by G. Ramanathan and premiered following its initial August 1957 play adaptation release in London on May 10th, 1959, before a wider release in Tamil Nadu six days later.
Notably being the first full-length Tamil film released in Technicolor, it received critical acclaim upon its release.
