Vaira Maalai is a 1954 Indian Tamil-language comedy film directed by an unknown director and starring R.S. Manohar, K.A. Thangavelu, Padmini, and Ragini.
The film is based on the play of the same name by Thottakara Viswanathan and follows college students Rangasamy and Mohan in Chennai as they navigate a series of misadventures.
Rangasamy makes a bet with another student Kamala that he can get her to dance at his birthday party for 1000 rupees, leading him to travel to Coimbatore where he stays with Mohan. He plans to use money obtained by selling his mother's diamond necklace and meets Shantha, falling in love before she is taken away by her brother Mani.
Complications arise when Rangasamy discovers that his uncle Sambantham has rented out the house he owns to Shantha's father Paramasivam. Rangasamy must escape a lunatic present before he can ask his uncle for the promised money.
