Uthami is a 1985 Indian Tamil-language film directed by M. Vellaichami and starring Sujatha, Rajesh, and Sangeeta.
The story revolves around the unhappy marriage of Sivashankar and Ganga, who desires a modern partner while he seeks a traditional wife. Paranthaman exploits this dynamic at work, using Sivashankar to smuggle diamonds.
At an office party, Paranthaman begins an affair with Ganga, leading to Sivashankar's heartbreak and attempted suicide by jumping from a moving train while wearing the hidden diamonds. Ganga receives a suicide letter and, alongside Paranthaman, tries but fails to recover the diamonds.
This failure makes her realize she cannot trust him, ultimately resulting in her murdering him. Meanwhile, Sivashankar is rescued by Gayathri after his attempted suicide.
