Ulagam is a 1953 Indian Tamil-language film directed by L. S. Ramachandran.
The film stars V. Nagayya and M. V. Rajamma in the lead roles, with Sabapathy played by V. Nagayya and Meena played by M. V. Rajamma.
The story spans three generations, focusing on Sabapathy, an ordinary man who unexpectedly gains wealth and status through luck after marrying a beautiful woman named Meena.
The couple has two sons: Shankar, whose arranged marriage to Padma forms part of the narrative; and Mohan, a college student pursued by his cousin Leela (who returns from South Africa) despite being also interested in girl student Lalitha, who leaves for Barrister studies abroad after their relationship ends.
The film concludes tragically with Lalitha dying in a car accident, while her pregnancy is aborted during this time.
