Thulasi (also known as Basil) is a 1987 Indian Tamil-language romantic drama film directed by Ameerjan.
The film stars Murali and Seetha, with Sampath Selvam composing the music.
The story revolves around Thirunavukarasu, who is regarded as a god in his village, and his son Sammadham, an atheist. Sammadham falls in love with Ponni, a girl from a lower caste. Meanwhile, Siva also pursues both Sammadham's sister Thulasi and Ponni.
Thirunavukarasu disapproves of the inter-caste relationship between his son and Ponni. To resolve this conflict, he decides to marry her himself, sending henchmen after her. This leads to Ponni's tragic death in the water. The narrative then focuses on Siva and Thulasi.
The film was released on 27 November 1987.
