The plot revolves around Mangalam, the daughter of a village elder Ponnambalam, who prepares for her groom Chella Durai's visit. A misunderstanding arises when her uncle, martial arts trainer Nambiar, mistakes Chella Durai for mishandling Mangalam and confronts him. This leads to an altercation where Chella Durai defends himself against Nambiar's men.
The film was released on 14 April 1982 and has been remade in Telugu as Pelli Choopulu (1983), in Hindi as Mohabbat (1985), and in Kannada as Gowri Kalyana (1991).
