Thayilla Pillai is a 1961 Indian Tamil-language drama film directed by L. V. Prasad and co-produced with A. Anand.
The screenplay was written by M. Karunanidhi based on a story by S. R. Pinisetty, starring T. S. Balaiah and M. V. Rajamma in lead roles, supported by G. Muthukrishnan, Kalyan Kumar, S. Rama Rao, Manohar, L. Vijayalakshmi, Madhuri Roy, Sandhya, and T. P. Muthulakshmi.
The film revolves around a mother figure, Parvathi (M. V. Rajamma), torn between her love for her orthodox Brahmin husband, Pathanjali Sasthri (T. S. Balaiah), and the influence of her modern brother-in-law, Bharathi, who is a doctor.
Thematically, the film speaks against the Indian caste system. It was well-received commercially upon release on 18 August 1961, running for over 100 days in theaters before being remade into Malayalam's Pravaham in 1975.
