The movie tells the story of Samidurai, a habitual gambler who flees to Singapore after being accused of murdering his pregnant wife Karpagam. He later inherits wealth and becomes successful, but Karpagam has survived and is living with her son Anandan and his sister Kaveri.
As Anandan grows up, he becomes an unruly youngster with a troubled past, but remains respectful to his mother and affectionate towards his sister. The film explores their relationships and the consequences of Samidurai's actions.
