Tenali Raman is a 1956 Indian Tamil-language historical comedy film directed by B. S. Ranga and produced under Vikram Productions.
The film tells the story of Tenali Rama, a 16th-century poet and scholar who serves in the court of King Krishnadevaraya of the Vijayanagara Empire.
Tenali Raman uses his intelligence to save the king from attacks by the Bahmani Sultanate, and later convinces Emperor Babur against providing support to the Sultanate during their conflict.
The film also features a plotline involving courtesan Krishnasani, who tries to manipulate the king with her dancing skills and clever repartees.
Starring Sivaji Ganesan, V. Nagayya, P. Bhanumathi, Jamuna, and Thiruvengadam Chettiyar, the film was shot simultaneously in multiple languages.
The movie features music composed by Viswanathan–Ramamoorthy, with cinematography handled by B. S. Ranga and editing by P. G. Mohan.
