Savithiri is a 1941 Indian Tamil-language film directed and produced by Y. V. Rao, who also appeared in it as Satyavan.
The film tells the story of Savithiri, a beautiful and chaste princess whose suitors are intimidated by her qualities. Her father, King Aswapati, allows her to choose her own husband, which she selects Satyavan, portrayed by Rao, who is the son of a blind king living in exile.
Before the marriage, Narada warns Aswapati against Savithiri's choice due to Satyavan's predetermined fate. However, Savithiri insists on marrying him, and they wed. Following her husband into his forest life, Savithiri embraces austerities with him.
On the day Sathyavan is destined to die, accompanied by Savithiri in the forest for firewood, he collapses. Yama arrives to take Satyavan away according to his fate.
The film features Shanta Apte as Savitri and was released in 1941.
