Raavanan is a 2010 Indian Tamil-language action-adventure film directed by Mani Ratnam and starring Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Prithviraj in lead roles.
The film follows the story of Dev Prakash Subramaniam, a ruthless cop on a quest to find Veeraiya, a tribal leader-turned naxalite who has kidnapped his wife Raagini. As Dev pursues Veeraiya, he begins to develop emotions for him after learning his purpose.
The film is loosely based on the epic Ramayana and was announced in February 2008 amidst much hype surrounding Mani Ratnam's return to Tamil films. Shooting took place in various locations with a record number of extras.
Dev Prakash Subramaniam is assigned the task of apprehending a bandit, Veeraiya, and accordingly re-locates with his wife, Ragini. Shortly thereafter, while investigating another matter, he will be notified that his wife has been abducted by Veeraiya.
The film stars Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Prithviraj, along with a supporting cast led by Karthik, Prabhu and Priyamani. It marked Rai Bachchan's return to Tamil after a decade, since Kandukondain Kandukondain (2000).
