Ponni is a 1953 Indian Tamil-language film directed by A. S. A. Sami and C. S. Rao.
The story revolves around a destitute woman who leaves her two daughters behind after losing one, "Baby" Chandrakumari, who later becomes Padmini. The mother entrusts the other daughter, Ponni ("Baby" Asha), to work in the household of a wealthy man named Kanmani (played by D. Balasubramaniam).
Kanmani cruelly treats Ponni, pushing her down stairs resulting in serious injury. The rich man's adopted son is Sundaram (Kaushik), while his biological brother Sriram behaves badly towards both Ponni and Kanmani.
In an attempt to save her sister from trouble, Ponni ends up falsely accused of murder and sent to prison. However, the truth eventually surfaces, leading to a happy resolution for all characters involved.
The film stars Sriram, Lalitha, and Padmini, with D. Balasubramaniam playing the role of Kanmani. The Telugu version Oka Talli Pillalu was released in the same year.
