Ponmudi is a 1950 Tamil-language film directed by Ellis R. Dungan and produced by T.R. Sundaram of Modern Theatres.
The movie is based on Bharathidasan's verse novel 'Ethirparatha Mutham' (also known as 'The Unexpected Kiss').
It was filmed at the studio in Salem with some scenes shot in Yercaud, where a beach set was constructed using sand brought from Adyar Beach.
The soundtrack features music composed by G. Ramanathan and lyrics written by Ka. Mu. Sheriff and A. Maruthakasi.
Released on January 14, 1950, Ponmudi included intimate love sequences, which were considered unusual in the conservative Tamil film industry of that era.
