Periyar is a 2007 Indian Tamil-language biographical film directed by Gnana Rajasekaran and written by the same director.
The film tells the story of Periyar E. V. Ramasamy, a social reformer and rationalist who fought against Brahminical dominance and gender and caste inequality in Tamil Nadu, India.
Sathyaraj plays the lead role of Periyar, and the movie follows his life from childhood to marriage, pilgrimage to Kashi, and later, his involvement in politics and public service.
The film was partly funded by the then Tamil Nadu government headed by Karunanidhi and was dubbed in Telugu as Periyar Ramaswamy Naicker.
