Panchali is a 1959 Tamil language drama film directed by V. Srinivasan and starring Devika, S.S. Rajendran, and Ramarao.
The film is part of the Apu Trilogy, a celebrated series of three Indian Bengali-language drama films directed by Satyajit Ray. The trilogy is based on two Bengali novels by Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay: Pather Panchali (1929) and Aparajito (1932).
The Apu Trilogy follows the "coming of age" narrative of a young Bengali named Apu, describing his childhood, education, and early maturity. The trilogy won numerous prestigious awards, including three National Film Awards.
