Paithiyakaran is a 1947 Tamil-language film produced and starring N. S. Krishnan, following his acquittal in the Lakshmikanthan murder case.
The movie was based on the play of the same name staged by Krishnan's drama troupe, the N. S. K Nataka Sabha, which he had established while awaiting trial for that incident.
The plot originates from V. Shantaram's play 'Duniya Na Mane', itself an adaptation of Narayan Hari Apte's Marathi novel, 'Na Patnari Goshta'.
N. S. Krishnan played the lead role in this film, while M.G. Ramachandran appeared as a supporting actor.
The movie is a socially themed film advocating widow remarriage and condemning older men marrying significantly younger women.
