Synopsis
Padayappa is a 1999 Indian Tamil-language action drama film written and directed by K. S. Ravikumar.
The film stars Rajinikanth in the titular lead role, alongside Ramya Krishnan and Soundarya in other lead roles, as well as Lakshmi, Radha Ravi, Nassar, Abbas, and Preetha in supporting performances.
The soundtrack album and background score were composed by A. R. Rahman.
The film tells the story of Padayappa and his family being targeted in a generations-long revenge by his cousin Neelambari, a narcissistic woman who was left humiliated after he rejected her love proposal.
Principal photography began in October 1998, and the film was released on April 10, 1999, marking its worldwide release with 210 prints and 700,000 audio cassettes.
The film became Tamil cinema's highest-grossing film at that point, and Ramya Krishnan's performance is notable in this context.
