Nammavar is a 1994 Indian Tamil-language drama film directed by K. S. Sethumadhavan and produced by B. Venkatarama Reddy.
The film stars Kamal Haasan and Gautami, with Nagesh, Senthil, Kovai Sarala, Srividya, and Karan playing supporting roles.
Dr. Selvan (Kamal) is appointed as Vice Principal to Shaktivel college, where goons under college politician Ramesh (Karan) hold the campus hostage.
Selvan, a former union leader and hoodlum himself, has ideas on how to clean up the act, and romance English lecturer Vasanthi (Gautami) in the meantime.
The story follows a history lecturer of a college and his initiatives to reform the downtrodden college, inspired by various English-language films about universities and professors.
The film was released on 2 November 1994, Diwali day, and won several awards including three National Film Awards and two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards.
