Synopsis
Murattu Kaalai is a 1980 Tamil action film directed by S. P. Muthuraman and written by Panchu Arunachalam.
The film stars Rajinikanth as Kaaliyan, an honorable villager who remains modest despite his wealth, opposite Jaishankar (played by Sundaravelu), a selfish and villainous character.
The central conflict arises from the engagement between Jaishankar's sister and Kaaliyan, triggering a rivalry between their respective villages.
Released on December 20, 1980, after AVM Productions' sabbatical following the death of its founder, it marked Rajinikanth's debut with the studio and established him as an action hero.
The film revolves around Kaalaiyan, who chooses to live modestly despite his wealth, while Sundaravelu tries to grab Kaalaiyan's land. Murattu Kaalai was a commercial success and became an Industry Hit Blockbuster.
