The film stars Kamal Haasan in the lead role alongside Manisha Koirala, with music composed by Ilaiyaraaja. The cinematography was handled by Siddharth Ramaswamy, while Ashmith Kunder edited the movie.
Simultaneously shot in Tamil and Hindi, Mumbai Express was the first Indian censored film to be filmed in digital format.
The story follows three amateur thieves who plot to kidnap the young son of a wealthy family. However, things take an unexpected turn when they kidnap the wrong boy, leading to a series of events that test their resolve and morals.
