It was remade in Hindi as John Jani Janardhan (1984) with Rajinikanth reprising his roles, in Telugu as Mugguru Monagallu (1983), and in Kannada as Gedda Maga (1983).
The plot follows Arun, the son of a wealthy businessman who returns to India after 10 years abroad, but has transformed into a saint. A press reporter, Rekha, is enlisted to help him return to his former self.
