Moodu Pani (English: The Mist), released in 1980, is a Tamil psychological thriller directed by Balu Mahendra and starring Pratap as Chandru.
The film was Mahendra's third directorial venture and his second in the Tamil language following Azhiyatha Kolangal. It marked the debut of Mohan in Tamil cinema and featured Shoba in her final acting role before her death, alongside N. Viswanathan and Bhanu Chander.
Principal photography occurred between January and April 1980, primarily shot in Udupi, Bangalore, and Ooty. The plot centers on Chandru, who harbors a strong hatred for prostitutes and believes marrying Rekha (played by Shoba) will resolve his psychological turmoil.
The film draws inspiration from two novels: Idhuvum Oru Viduthalai Thaan (1978) by Rajendra Kumar and The Collector (1963) by John Fowles. It follows Chandru, who has a strong hatred towards prostitutes and would kill any such woman he encounters. He falls in love with Rekha and believes marrying her will end his psychological distress.
