Missiyamma is a 1955 Indian Tamil-language romantic comedy film directed by L. V. Prasad and produced by B. Nagi Reddy through Vijaya Vauhini Studios.
The script was adapted by Chakrapani from the Bengali play 'Manmoyee Girls School' written by Rabindranath Maitra, focusing on social issues like unemployment, corruption, and freedom of worship.
The film tells the story of two unemployed individuals with different religions and personalities, Balu and Mary. They pose as a married couple to secure teaching positions at a high school established by Gopal, the zamindar (landlord) of Aandipettai.
As they develop feelings for each other, complications arise when Gopal's nephew Raju discovers that Mary is actually Mahalakshmi, his uncle's missing elder daughter, unaware of her true identity.
The film was simultaneously shot in Telugu as 'Missamma', featuring a different cast with P. Bhanumathi and R. Ganesh playing the lead roles originally intended for this version before a dispute occurred.
