Metti is a 1982 Indian Tamil-language film written and directed by Mahendran. The film stars Sarath Babu, C. R. Vijayakumari, Radhika, Vadivukkarasi, and Rajesh.
The story revolves around Pattabhi, who arrives seeking accommodation and befriends a tea seller and an all-purpose broker. He meets Kalyani amma, his estranged mother, and reveals that he is her son looking to atone for his father's actions. Kalyani allows him to rent a room in her house, where he meets his two sisters, Sulekha and Preetha.
The plot touches upon Kalyani amma being accused of infidelity by the community, as well as the complex relationships between Pattabhi, his sisters, and their co-tenants, Vijayan and a worker who professes love to Sulekha. The film culminates in a tragic event involving Pattabhi's father, leading to Preetha wearing the "metti" (Toe Ring) as a symbol of her connection to her brother.
The film is based on Mahendran's novel of the same name, which was serialized in the magazine Chaavi. It was released on January 14, 1982.
