Meera is a 1945 Indian Tamil-language historical musical film directed by Ellis R. Dungan and produced by T. Sadasivam. The movie is based on the life of 16th-century mystic poet Mirabai, played by M. S. Subbulakshmi as the titular character.
Meera considers Krishna her husband, despite marrying King Rana (Chittoor Nagayya). The film was shot primarily on location across North India, including Jaipur, Vrindavan, Udaipur, Chittor, and Dwarka, to maintain historical accuracy. Filming began at Newtone Studio in Madras before moving locations.
Released on Diwali day, November 3, 1945, Meera achieved significant critical acclaim and commercial success. The film was written by Kalki Krishnamurthy and stars M. S. Subbulakshmi as the devoted follower of Krishna.
