Mathru Bhoomi is a 1939 Indian Tamil-language film directed by H. M. Reddy.
The film serves as an adaptation of the Bengali stage play Chandragupta, written by Dwijendralal Ray. It presents Alexander's invasion of India as an allegory reflecting upon the contemporary situation of British colonial rule over India.
The narrative centers on Ugrasen, the king of Udaygiri and the founder of the Maurya dynasty, who opposes Greek general Seleucus Nicator, also known as Minander. The film features a dual role for T. S. Santhanam as Jayapala and Ugrasen.
The cast includes P. U. Chinnappa, T. V. Kumudhini, A. K. Rajalakshmi, Kali N. Rathnam, T. R. B. Rao, and P. Saradambal.
Produced on a record budget of ₹2 lakh (equivalent to approximately ₹34 crore as of 2021), the film took one year to complete its filming. Assistant director duties were undertaken by P. S. Ramakrishna Rao, who later became a prominent figure in Telugu cinema.
