Synopsis
Maryan is a 2013 Tamil film directed by Bharatbala and produced under Aascar Films. The film stars Dhanush and Parvathy in lead roles.
The story revolves around Maryan, an aggressive fisherman who falls for the feisty Panimalar (Parvathy). However, their love is threatened when a local moneylender, Theekkurissi (Vinayakan), sets his eye on Panimalar to marry her in exchange for a huge loan.
Maryan decides to work in Sudan, Africa as a construction worker under a contract of two years. However, he and his co-workers are abducted by Africans who demand money from the company they work for. The film follows Maryan's journey as he tries to escape from the hot deserts where he is being held captive.
The soundtrack album for the film was composed by A. R. Rahman and released under Sony Music India on May 17, 2013. It received extremely positive critical reception and audience response, topping the iTunes India charts for several months and winning several awards.
